Writing Down the Hard Stuff

Enrollment is now closed. Sign up for my newsletter to be notified about new dates and openings.

Description: It's hard to write about traumatic experiences, whether they belong to you, a loved one, or your characters. Yet getting it right is rewarding for the development of your work. This class explores topics such as when to hold back and when to reveal, how to know you've gone deep enough, and whether the experience you are writing renders true on the page.

Because of its intimate subject matter, enrollment is limited to a maximum of 8 participants and will run with a minimum of 4. If you're interested, it's best to reserve your spot early.

A note: while writing about trauma can be an intensely valuable exercise, and discussing personal experiences can be at the core of such a workshop, this class does not substitute for or provide medical or mental health advice. It is limited strictly to the craft of writing about hard subjects.

When: Thursdays, December 2 through 30, 5 to 7:00 p.m.

Where: YMCA, 40 Granite Hill Rd, Manchester ME, 04351 or virtual, via Zoom (updated to Jitsi)

Enroll: contact me to sign up

Cost: $50.00 due at first class (cash or check)
